Would You Like to Become a Writer? Learn How - A Book Review

Many folks want to become writers but they simply don’t know where to start, they have decent writing skills, read quite a bit, and feel they could do well in this venue. There are lots of starving writers, statistics prove that, but that doesn’t not mean you cannot become a writer and make it big; I bet you can and if so, I’d like to recommend this book to you, and the best time to read it would be right now;

“Becoming a Writer” by Dorothy Brande, 1934, 1961, 1981.

This book is a classic and it had no doubt helped millions of people become the writer they want to be. The author asks new writers to do a little soul-searching; what is it in a writer’s heart and mind? In other words, what is it that makes people want to write, she helps you answer that question. Then she gets into the difficulty of writing and the challenges with the uneven temperament of a writer. She also talks about the false and real realities of personalities when it comes to artists. She suggests that there are both born writers, and those who learn later in life, and both are quite good, or can be.

She explains how to get into the creative flow of effortless writing, and how to read your work critically, and edit and make corrections after this criticism. Brande suggests there’s a difference between reading as a writer and reading as a reader. She also suggests that you should spend your words frugally, and has some tips for that. Lastly, she suggests that you practice a little detachment, and self-control when looking over your own work. I highly recommend this book to anyone would like to become a writer, or even if you don’t want to become a writer, but there’s something you’d like to write. Please consider all this.
