The Adventures of Corwyn by Chad Corrie

“The Adventures of Corwyn” by Chad Corrie revolve around a young Telborian bard, Corwyn Danther. The five stories in this fantasy anthology will enchant readers young and old. The adventures take place in the years following the author’s series, “The Divine Gambit Trilogy,” and they explore a world that is magical and beautifully described.

The first story, a tale of otherworldly creatures, is my favorite. “Rainer’s Legacy” almost proves fatal to the young bard when he embarks on an expedition to the Northlands to find the secret of eternal life.

In the second tale, a visit to the shrine “Maiden Rock” brings Corwyn face to face with a muse and refreshes his spirit. In “Where Dreams Go to Die” Corwyn visits an inn next to a cemetery and learns about the god of death. A highway robbery has an unexpected outcome in “Charity for Halflings.” In Sellswords and Snake Oil” Corwyn gets involved in a monster hunt.

Corrie’s vivid descriptions capture the imagination and bring life to the unique world of Tralodren, a medieval land ripe with mythology and magic. The hero, Corwyn, is the “Famed Bard of the Midlands.” He is a pacifist who uses his head to get out of the many jams his explorations get him into. The wonderfully drawn cast of characters includes an ensemble of gnomes, dwarves, elves and otherworldly creatures. This is an enjoyable side trip for fans of “Seer’s Quest,” “Path of Power,” and “Gambit’s End” and a great place for new readers to start the journey.
