Book Review - "Delay the Real World"

I just finished reading the book “Delaying the Real World” by Coleen Kinder. As a CEO of a teen jobs website and a professional career consultant, I read about 10 career related books per week. Some are good but most are bad. When I finished reading the first couple of pages of this book, I knew that this book was going to be a keeper. The book is written for high school or college students who find themselves in that transitional stage of life. The author suggests that you should delay the real world and not rush into Corporate America. I am sure that most parents would not be too happy about this advice but the author actually focuses on meaningful things that that fresh graduates can do that will actually help them develop.

I actually agree with her suggestions as I believe that this time in your life you will have freedom to do what you want and may never have this opportunity again. The greatest thing about this book is that each chapter has real stories of young people who write and share about their experiences. These experiences range from working on a vineyard in New Zealand to teaching for a year in Brazil. These stories of their adventures are very inspirational and will give you the strength to take the leap of faith yourself. I believe that if you actually do something you love and feel passionate about it can be valuable experience to all young adults. These early experiences could positively shape their future careers.

In closing, this is a great inspirational book and I recommend it for all new graduates.
