1-800-Awesome - Tactics for Making $10,000 An Hour By Chris Rugh

When I read the dedication in “1-800-Awesome: Tactics for Making $10,000 An Hour” by Chris Rugh, I thought to myself, “I like this guy, and I think I’m going to like this book.” I was right, I did enjoy the book, and from what Rugh wrote, I do like him and he’s someone I’d probably enjoy meeting in person. The book is motivating, and provides some good, straight forward, advice on succeeding in business and life as author Chris Rugh sees it. And Rugh’s view comes from his own success, which has had some setbacks along the way, and he doesn’t pull an punches or mince words when it comes to telling you how he feels about things. Personally, I agreed with most of what he said and found the book a very good read. The dedication, by the way, states, “I dedicate this book to all those who have tried to stand in my way, beat m down, or hold me back. Without you, I wouldn’t have been pissed off. Without you, I wouldn’t have taken action. Without you, I may have simply stepped aside…instead of stepping up.”

Basically, the book is about working smarter so you can live life more. The $10,000 an hour in the title refers to getting to the position where deals you make, or residual income, come in at that level. Rugh states right at the beginning that he’s made $10,000 in an hour, and many others have, and you can too. He does not say you will make $10,000 EVERY hour, or even continuously, but that it is possible. Some projects or deals can make money like this, and other projects or deals might not make you anything. He does point out that you must work on yourself and your business, and that it is not easy, you will have to work hard, but people do make good money only working a few hours a week, and it can be done. (You won’t do it right away, but you can work toward getting there.) The book has a strong message regarding focusing on the things in life that are important to you. I liked that, because we all only have so much time, and it really makes sense to focus on the important things and quit letting life just pass on by as many do.

This short, just over 200 pages, book is divided into three parts.

Part One: Getting Started has chapters on breaking the rules, knowing what you want, considering your risks, and making a plan. Basic straightforward stuff that needs to be determined if you want to succeed. After all, you need to define what success means to you before you can pursue and achieve it.

Part Two: Bending Time focuses on improving yourself and your systems. Chapters include: Invest in Yourself, Learn to Lead, Get Out of the Way, Leverage to Free Your Time, and Automate the Hell Out Of It. While Rugh doesn’t tell you exactly how to do this, because each person’s goals and situations will be different, it is good practical advice to get you thinking about how you can do it yourself.

Part Three: Be Happy seems to be what Rugh is all about. Work hard so you can be happy. That’s what life is for. Chapters include Be Happy, Let Your Style Shine, Change Your Environment, See Your Success, Stop Resisting, Beat the Distractions, Find the Balance, Live in Hell Until You Do. The book then concludes with a few resources.

Many of the lessons in this book are similar to the lessons in other self-help and business books, but told with Rugh’s personal antidotes and his straightforward tell-it-like-he-sees-it style. Some might not like his style, but I did. I like how he stated throughout, “Dominate YOUR Business.” And he provides exercises, in the form of answering questions, that will help you figure things out for YOUR business and life. If you are looking for a good kick in the seat of the pants, combined with some advice on how to succeed in both business and life, give Chris Rugh’s book a read. It might just motivate you toward making $10,000 an hour.
